American rapper and fashion designer ASAP Bari has pleaded guilty to sexual assault after a video emerged of him attacking a woman at a London hotel.
Real name Jabari Shelton, 27, who is a founder of the American hip hop collective ASAP Mob, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to one count of sexual assault.
The star, from Manhattan, New York, flew to the UK on Tuesday to attend his Old Bailey trial.
The New York-based star was accused of hitting the woman on her behind at a hotel in Shoreditch, East London on July 10 last year.
Shelton denied two counts of sexual assault back in June, with his barrister telling the court he was ‘extremely keen’ to contest the charges but changed his plea today.
“This is made up for the purpose of improving the chance of success in a civil action in the United States for $1million,” Gideon Cammerman QC told the hearing.
“The complainant filed it two days before she made her witness statement to the Metropolitan police in the UK.
“What was on the video was an alleged slap to the bottom.”
Shelton was arrested at Heathrow Airport in May whilst transferring to a flight bound for South Africa.
