Jamie Carragher has told talkSPORT the Premier League title race will NOT be over if Liverpool beat Manchester City in their Etihad Stadium showdown.

Liverpool face the defending champions on Thursday night in a game many are tipping to be a potential title decider.

Victory for the unbeaten Reds would take them nine points clear at the league summit and ten points above City, who currently sit third below Tottenham.

It’s a crucial clash for Jurgen Klopp’s men, which will put their credentials to the test as they look to finally end the club’s 29-year wait for a league crown.

Liverpool are desperate to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions

But while some fans may already be dreaming, Anfield legend Carragher has warned them not to get too carried away, insisting there is still plenty of time for City to catch up.

Speaking on Thursday’s Sports Breakfast, the former Reds defender said: “If Liverpool were to win it would open up a huge lead.

“But it wouldn’t be over, there’s still a long way to go.

“If team with the quality of Man City can lose that ground in a month to six weeks, there’s no doubt it could happen to Liverpool as well.

“[If it ends in a draw] I think seven points would be a very good lead for Liverpool, but it can quickly be turned around in two or three games. There’s still an awful long way to go.

“If City lose it puts them in a very difficult position, but if they win it I think they’re right back in it.

Can Pep Guardiola mastermind a victory over unbeaten Liverpool?

“However, the confidence Liverpool would gain from winning and with the team in that position, what an opportunity that would be to win their first Premier League title.

“Liverpool beat Manchester City three times in 2018, so we should have great belief to go there an actually win the game.

“It will be difficult, of course it will, because City are a top side but they have been there and done it before.”
