Andy Murray has posted a heartwarming picture alongside mum Judy after confirming his plans to retire.
An emotional Murray confirmed ahead of the Australian Open on Friday that he would be bowing out after years of injury hell.
The Scot plans to call it a day after Wimbledon but admitted he may be forced to retire before then.
Tributes have poured in from across the world of sport for Murray, who faces Roberto Bautista Agut on Monday.
He took to Instagram to provide an update to his fans and sent an adorable message to his mum as he prepares for his opener.
“Best way to feel better after a tough day is a big cuddle from your mum,” Murray posted alongside a snap of the pair.
“Genuinely been very touched by all of the messages and support from everybody today.
“It means a lot and has made me feel much more positive than when I woke this morning. Thank you so much.”
Murray broke down in his press conference on Friday as he confirmed his plans to retire.
He said: “In my training block in December I spoke to my team and told them: ‘I cannot keep doing this’.
“I needed to have an end point, because I was playing with no idea when the pain was going to stop. I felt like making that decision.
“I said to my team: ‘Look, I think I can get through this until Wimbledon.’ That’s where I would like to stop playing, but I am not certain I am able to do that.”
